Teen Behavior Coaching
Building Skills. Growing Independence.
Virtual sessions offer flexible, personalized support from home.
Confidence and Independence for Teens
The teen years bring new expectations, greater independence, and plenty of opportunities to figure out what works. But managing responsibilities, building routines, following through on goals, and navigating everyday challenges don't always come naturally.
Through virtual teen behavior coaching available throughout Utah, Alces Academy offers practical, collaborative support to help teens and families understand patterns, build useful skills, and work toward goals that matter to them.
At Alces Academy, we look beyond what isn't working to better understand the circumstances, habits, skills, and supports that influence behavior. The goal isn't perfection. It's progress, confidence, and greater independence over time.
What Can Coaching Help With?
Coaching goals are individualized and based on the teen's priorities, needs, and circumstances. Areas we may explore include:
Organization and follow-through
Breaking larger tasks into manageable steps, planning ahead, and building systems that support getting things done.
Habits and routines
Creating realistic routines for school, home responsibilities, sleep habits, and other everyday goals.
Goal-setting and motivation
Identifying what matters, choosing achievable next steps, and learning how to adjust when plans don't work.
Independence and self-advocacy
Practicing skills for managing responsibilities, communicating needs, and making informed choices.
Support That Fits
There is no single approach that works for every teen or family. Depending on the goals, virtual coaching may involve:
Direct Teen Coaching
One-on-one virtual sessions give teens space to identify strengths, explore challenges, practice skills, and develop strategies they can use in everyday life.
Parent Support
Parents can receive virtual guidance on understanding behavior, creating supportive routines and environments, communicating expectations, and encouraging growing independence.
Collaborative Support
When appropriate and agreed upon, teens and parents can work together virtually to identify shared goals, improve communication around expectations, and support progress at home.
A Practical, Collaborative Process
-
1. Understand what's happening.
We start by learning what matters to the teen and family, what feels challenging, and what each person hopes will be different.
-
2. Choose meaningful goals.
We identify realistic priorities and break them into manageable steps, keeping the teen involved in decisions about their goals and strategies.
-
3. Practice and adjust.
We explore practical tools, notice what helps, and make adjustments as circumstances change.
What About Parents?
Parents remain important partners in supporting a teen's growth. At the same time, teens need opportunities to build trust, express their perspectives, and practice making decisions.
We'll discuss parent involvement at the beginning and revisit it as needed. The aim is to create a clear, respectful plan that supports the teen's participation while giving parents an appropriate role in the process.
Before coaching begins, we'll also discuss expectations around privacy, confidentiality, and parent involvement so everyone understands how the process works.
Is Teen Coaching a Good Fit?
Coaching may be a fit for teens who are willing to explore goals and practice new strategies, and for families who want practical, collaborative support.
The first step is a conversation about what you're looking for, what coaching can offer, and whether the service is appropriate for your needs.
